How to get here
Williams Lake is the gate
Those who don’t mind a day long drive, grab a car at Vancouver Airport and enjoy a beautiful road trip. Please make sure you go via Williams Lake. There are alternative routes, but due to bad road conditions, we highly recommend not to use them, even if your GPS might find that’s a good idea. You can also rent a car in Williams Lake. Please let us know, if you need any assistance with that.
From Williams Lake you’ve got two options to get to us.
Option 1: Farwell Canyon
125km (last 80km on gravel road) / around 2h
This is a spectacular route through the beautiful Farwell canyon, rarely the locals first choice due to the extra km’s on gravel and large logging trucks who travel this road.
From Williams Lake head out west on Highway 20 – in Riske Creek, at the first sign to Big Creek, turn left on Farwell Canyon Road – now you are driving on gravel, please set your trip meter to zero – after a little more than 20km you cross the Chilcotin River which means you are already at the bottom of the beautiful Farewell Canyon – go ahead and at kilometer 62 you reached the T-junction with Big Creek Road coming in from the right – to your left there is a post with lots of direction signs and to the right you see an old, but still working phone booth – keep going straight ahead for another 4km, then turn left into Witte Road – be patient, don’t take the first option to the left – now follow the signs Big Creek Lodge 15 km along Witte Road – bear left after 70km, right at 78km and left again at 80km – after a few more minutes, you made it.
Option 2: Lee’s Corner
145km (last 50km on gravel road) / around 2h
20km more to go, but shorter distance on gravel, better road conditions as used for local traffic, also logging traffic isn’t that busy over here.
From Williams Lake head out west on Highway 20 as in option 1 – this time you don’t turn left at Riske Creek, but stay on Highway 20 for another 43km – now it’s time to turn left at Lee’s Corner, a historical gas station and inn which unfortunately fell victim to the flames of the 2017 forest fires, but to your right you still see a blue sign to Big Creek – now you drive on gravel again, please set your trip meter to zero – the first bit is called Hanceville Cut Off Road and just 1.5km long – keep right at the 1st fork into Big Creek Road – you cross the Chilcotin River and then turn left at 5.5km – after that just stay on the main road following the signs Big Creek Lodge – bear left after 8.5km and 22km – go ahead until you get to the T-junction with Farewell Canyon Road – in front of you there is the post with the direction signs – turn right to enter the last section which is identical to option 1 – so follow Farewell Canyon Road for about 4km, then turn left into Witte Road – still be patient, don’t take the first option to the left – now follow the signs Big Creek Lodge 15km along Witte Road – bear left after 40km, right at 48km and left again at 50km – after a few more minutes, you made it.
You will notice each road you take has numbered yellow km markers every km so you can see how far along you have travelled on that road
